Welcome to the Mountain View Lodge!

LOCATION: Haines, Alaska is a small community located 90 miles north of Juneau, at the top of the Inside Passage.  Haines borders Glacier Bay National Park, famous for magnificent views of large tidewater glaciers.  Glacier Bay NP and the adjacent 27 million protected acres, including Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, comprise the largest protected wilderness area on the planet.  It is a jagged and glaciated landscape that includes the world’s largest non-polar ice caps, pristine fjords, and wilderness river corridors.

Haines and the surrounding area of Southeastern Alaska was originally a valuable location for the indigenous Tlingits, or “people of the tide”.  The Tlingits called Haines Dtehshuh, or “end of the trail”.  Currently, Haines is home to Fort William H. Seward, a National Historic Landmark.  Haines is also home to the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, which has the largest concentration of bald eagles in the world.  In addition to a rich history and abundant wildlife, Haines is a world-class destination for heli-skiing and other outdoor adventures.  In 2004, National Geographic Adventure and Outside Magazine named Haines one of the best dream towns to live and play for outdoor recreation activities.

THE LODGE: The Mountain View Lodge is a family and pet-friendly, locally owned lodge with great views of the Lynn Canal and both the Chilkat and Chilkoot mountain ranges.  All of the rooms are non-smoking and have cable television and free WiFi.  We have 10 private rooms, 2 floors, and paved parking available in front of each room.  Rooms vary from singles with a queen size bed and full kitchen, doubles with full size beds and kitchenettes, and triples with full size beds in two separate rooms with a central living room and full kitchen.  Each room has a fully-equipped kitchenette with a two-burner stove top, refrigerator/freezer, kitchen sink, chinaware, utensils, glasses, and cookware.  For early morning risers, we provide complimentary coffee and tea with a easy brewer in each room.

We are proud to provide quality and affordable accommodations with friendly and helpful service to our guests.  The Mountain View is centrally located next to the historic Fort Seward and is only a short walk from downtown Haines and great hiking trails!  We are located one block from a laundromat, general store, USPS post office, and many of our staff’s favorite restaurant.

TRAVEL: Traveling to Haines is most easily accomplished by flying to the Alaska state capital,  Juneau.  Most major airlines have connecting flights with Alaska Air through Seattle, WA.  From Juneau, Wings of Alaska or Air Excursions offer 35-minute scenic commuter flights daily.  Alternatively, the Alaska Marine Highway System offers affordable 4-hour ferry service, though sailings are less frequent than flights.

Haines is one of three cities in Southeastern Alaska accessible by road.  The Haines Highway runs through British Colombia and the Yukon Territory where it connects with the Alaska Highway.  Haines is easily accessible from the interior of Alaska via the Alcan Highway to Haines Junction or through the Yukon’s capital, Whitehorse.
